Hi, I'm Mat Beetson and thankyou for visiting.
I have spent most of my life working in the photographic industry; as a printer, a photographer and professional business manager and count myself lucky as it's something I'm also really passionate about.
I first started working for an aerial imaging comany called Kevron Photographics in 1991 at their busy professsional camera store in Perth CBD. Not long after starting with them they were purchased by Kodak where I spent the next 6 years learning almost everything about photography. From there I 'graduated' to one of the biggest professional camera stores in Australia called Plaza Cameras and later to Fujifilm and Canon Australia as the Area Business Manager and WA Professional Account Manager respectively.
That all sounds like a great CV for someone who wants a job in the industry! But what does that mean when it comes to photographing your family?
Well, during my time working with professional and emerging photographers almost everyday and having a camera in my hand most of the time, I thought it might be a good idea to put that knowledge to good use. So I shifted my 'focus' on photography, took it a bit more seriously and started to point my camera at more intersting things. First came wildlife which changed to landscapes and then your minds eye just opens up as the joy of the creative process takes hold...fine art, travel, people and places...I could go on, I just love photograpy!
With all that experience I'd like to think I know my way around a camera! I am a fully accredited member of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography and a multiple award winner at that...something I am immensly proud of.
If this industry has taught me anything it is this; the single most important photographic subject in the world is you. Of all our wordly possessions none are valued more than our memories - our photographs. They provide instant joy when viewed, or bring back fond memories of times gone past...there is nothing that comes close to acheiving this type of result apart from being right there in that moment with your family. That is where I come in, to capture and create that treasured memory.
It is with these thoughts in mind, the value that a single photograph can have to any family or person is why I love to photograph people. To make sure those special smiles amongst you and your family are captured. I feel privelidged when I'm asked to create a beautiful memory for you and your family to treasure.
